Visions for Vacancy: Sewickley-Oakmont and Rochester Road

The 6.4 acre lot is being cleared, so what do you think should go there? What use would benefit the North Hills area community?

For weeks, heavy equipment has been clearing the hillside above the instersection of Sewickley-Oakmont and Rochester Roads.

B.R. Holdings LLC bought the 6.4 acre lot for $100,000 in April, according to the Allegheny County Real Estate Web Site. The land was valued at $157,700.

Within weeks, backhoes and dump trucks were hauling away tons of trees, rocks, and dirt as the steep hillside was slowly removed.

"I beleive the owner is selling the dirt to several parks," said Wayne Jones, Ross Township Manager. "The digging had to stop until a geotechnical analysis could be made to make sure the hillside wouldn't come crashing down."

The former gas station which sits at the base of the property was converted into a fruit market years ago, before the business eventually moved.
