West View's Townsend's Sweet Shoppe Closing
The store is closing a month after the death of its owner.

WEST VIEW, PA - Townsend’s Sweet Shoppe, a Center Avenue institution for more than three decades, is closing its doors forever. A liquidation sale begins Thursday and runs through Saturday, with discounts of up to 50 percent on the store’s legendary chocolate, unique shopping bags and ribbon.
“Thank you all for being a part of our lives,” the closing announcement on the shop’s Facebook page stated.
Townsend’s is closing little more than a month after the passing of store owner June Townsend Weletz, 71, of West View. A graduate of Bowling Green State University, she quite the workforce to raise two children.

While at home, she began to make homemade candy gifts for friends and family, with the demand for her treats becoming so great that she opened her shop.
Customers voiced their sadness over the store's impending closure on Facebook.

"Oh no! I love your candy! This is sad news," Marlene Schnorr wrote. "I buy all my holiday candy there. So sorry to hear this. "
"Love your candy and you make the best, the very best fruit nut eggs, among others at Easter," Tina Thornton wrote. "I will be going through withdrawal come next Easter."
