LCCC Awards Over 800 Degrees in May 2016 Commencement Ceremony

–– Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) held its 49th annual Commencement at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 18. In commemoration of the college’s 50th anniversary, a ceremony was held at the PPL Center in downtown Allentown, the city where the college first held classes. More than 800 students earned associate degrees or certificates from August 2015, December 2015 and May 2016. LCCC president Dr. Ann D. Bieber presided over the ceremony.

Class of 2016 graduates Carl B. Silverstein, of Palmerton, Pa., who received his associate of science degree in biology, and Luisa D. Peralta-Martinez, of Whitehall, Pa., who received her associate of arts degree in criminal justice administration, were student speakers.

President of the LCCC Faculty Association and associate professor of biotechnology/chemistry, Dr. John G. Hefner, presented the Student of the Year award to Jansell Nunez, a single mother of five who earned her associate degree in general studies.

Additionally, Dr. Hefner recognized Germansville resident Trisha Bankowski, who graduated as a general studies major, and Slatington resident Samantha Eden, a psychology major graduate, as the All-Pennsylvania Academic Team members. Bankowski will continue her education at East Stroudsburg University and Eden will attend West Chester University this fall.
