LCCC Awards Over 900 Degrees in Virtual Commencement Ceremony

Lehigh Carbon Community College held its Virtual Commencement ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 12, via YouTube. Commencement recognized the more than 900 students who have earned associate degrees, certificates or diplomas from December 2019, May 2020 and August 2020. Graduates had the opportunity to participate in the ceremony by submitting photos that were included in the pre-recorded presentation. LCCC president Dr. Ann D. Bieber presided over the ceremony and offered the welcome and remarks.

Daniel M. Melin and Jennifer M. Pacanowski were selected as this year's student speakers. Melin, of Macungie, graduated with an associate in arts degree in communication and will transfer to Kutztown University to pursue a degree in professional writing. Pacanowski, of Bethlehem, graduated with an associate in arts degree in general studies, and plans to transfer to Moravian College to major in integrated studies and minor in theatre.

The student of the year, selected annually by the LCCC Faculty Association, was announced during the ceremony. Rodolfo (Rudy) Arroyo, of Bethlehem, graduated with an associate in applied science degree in construction management.

In addition, the ceremony recognized the All-Pennsylvania Academic Team members, Alexis A. Hill, of Jim Thorpe, who graduated with a degree in education, and Mary G. Wilhelm, of Lehighton, who graduated with a degree in education.

Larissa M. Verta, vice president for academic services and student development, presented the candidates for graduation. In the absence of walking across a stage to receive their diploma, the names of all student graduates were included in the presentation. Peggy M. Heim, dean of student support and success, closed with remarks.
