LCCC Receives Hispanic Chamber's Lifetime Achievement Award

Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hispanic Chamber of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce at the organization’s annual awards dinner on Oct. 30 at the Bear Creek Mountain Resort.

The college received the award for its commitment to educating students of all backgrounds and for specifically embarking on a mission to serve Allentown, the Lehigh Valley’s largest city, which has the highest concentration of Hispanic students.

Established in 1966, Lehigh Carbon Community College has from its beginning committed to making higher education accessible to all. The first class of students enrolled in courses starting in the summer of 1967, in the Allentown courthouse. The college’s founders understood early, however, that the college would serve a wide area, now encompassing all of the school districts in Lehigh, Carbon and Schuylkill Counties. Annually over 20,000 students are served in credit and noncredit courses at five LCCC sites. Of all credit students enrolled, approximately 13 percent are Hispanic, a number that rises to 33 percent for the Donley Center in Allentown.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Lehigh Carbon Community College remains committed to serving a diverse student population, always placing student success as the priority.
