Lehigh Carbon Community College’s SHINE after-school program has received an Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program donation from Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation, a leading producer of natural gas in northeastern Pennsylvania and a community partner in support of education, nonprofit organizations, cultural events and healthcare facilities. Their donation of $20,000 is part of an initiative that partners with the Schools and Homes In Education (SHINE) Programs in Carbon and Luzerne counties and will provide $10,000 to each location. These funds will be used to support SHINE’s afterschool Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) initiatives.

The Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) SHINE model is a nationally recognized after-school program operating in school districts in Carbon, Schuylkill and Luzerne counties. The Carbon/Schuylkill SHINE program is administered by LCCC, and more than a thousand students are involved in the SHINE programs throughout northeastern Pennsylvania.

“Through the generous support of Cabot Oil & Gas, the SHINE Afterschool programs of Luzerne and Carbon/Schuylkill will be able to continue to expand their STEM based after-school programming for SHINE students across northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Senator John Yudichak. “Their commitment to support afterschool education will open countless doors and intensify the learning potential for SHINE students as they learn skills that are vital for their future.”
