LCCC Students Named 2016-2017 All-Pennsylvania Academic Team Members
Two Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) students, Theresa Buckley of Allentown, Pa., and Madison Marshall of Schnecksville, Pa., have been named members of the 2016-2017 All- Pennsylvania Academic Team, which is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa (the international honor society for two-year colleges), the Coca Cola Corporation, the State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) and the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges (PACCC). They will be recognized at the Annual PACC meeting on April 3 in Harrisburg.
Theresa Buckley is a biological and biomedical major and in the Honor Scholars Program at LCCC. She will major in biology for her bachelor’s degree at a state university, with plans of becoming a physician assistant. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the Outdoors Club and the Student Government Association, serving as the vice president in the fall of 2016 and as president in the spring of 2017. Additionally, she is a level 1 nationally certified ski instructor, has taught skiing in Germany and is a freestyle and children’s specialist. Buckley works part-time at the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Madison Marshall is a business management, marketing and administration major and in the Honor Scholars program at LCCC. She will major in business management for her bachelor’s degree at a state university with a long term career goal of becoming a manager within a health network. At LCCC, Marshall is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and a two-year member of the women’s softball team. She was awarded the NCAA Academic Student-Athlete Superior Award in the spring of 2016 and was the EPAC Softball Player of the Year in spring of 2016. Marshall is also a member of the LCCC Student Athlete Council, serving as chair in fall 2016, and works part-time in the LCCC Wellness Center and for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Selection is competitive and students must have completed at least 36 credits at a community college and earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Community college presidents or their designated nominators may submit no more than two nominations per campus for this award. An independent panel of judges considers outstanding academic rigor, grade point average, academic and leadership awards, and engagement in college and community service in the selection process.
Each member of the All- Pennsylvania Academic Team receives a full two-year scholarship to any of the universities in the PASSHE system and competes at the national level for scholarships from the All-USA Academic Team and the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team.
