LCCC Veterans Club Receives Funds for Refurbishing Vet Lounge at main campus and creating one at the college's airport site

The Lehigh Carbon Community College Student Veterans of America chapter has received a $4,500 grant from the Student Veterans of America (SVA) and the Home Depot Foundation to refurbish and create a veterans lounge at the college’s airport location.

The funds will be used to paint, remodel and furnish the space with coffee machine, microwave, refrigerator and furniture. The space is dedicated to student veterans where they can socialize, study and connect. The grant is part of a SVA Vet Center Initiative, which since 2014 has built and improved veteran spaces on 111 campuses impacting more than 30,000 student veterans.

The college’s airport campus, located in Hangar 7 at 600 Hayden Circle, Lehigh Valley International Airport, is the location for the flight and ground training. It is estimated that of the 46 students who take classes at this location, approximately 17 of them are veterans.

The college also has veterans lounges at the Schnecksville campus and the Tamaqua site.

“The updated furnishings in the lounge area will provide a relaxing atmosphere for our aviation students to engage with one another while completing their aviation education,” said aviation instructor Mark Reimann. “LCCC’s VA students were very successful in their service to our country and now they are pursuing additional success in the aviation industry, beginning with their flight training at LCCC. This area will provide a welcoming place to relax between the challenging ground and flight training classes. Thank you to Home Depot for making this possible.”
