Antonella's Amazing Cakes Has Sweet Grand Opening

Just after noon Friday, Antonella Gaglione finally had tiem to reflect on the grand opening of Antonella's Amazing Cakes.

She had already sold out of three trays of cannolis, two trays of sfogliatelle, and two trays of Napoleons. In the back, a chart was already bursting with special orders for Easter and other celebrations. And the customers continued flowing in the door.

Gaglione has been baking ever since she can remember - putting sprinkles on cookies at 7, dabbling with wedding cake decoration at 13. At 19, her parents would stack cakes, and hand them over to her for the full treatment. She knew then that this was her calling.

Her parents own and operate Guiseppe's, the established Italian bistro at the Greenway Street Mall. The new bakery is right next door to the restaurant.

The bakery offers something for everyone. Custom cakes, cupcakes and party orders for special occasions. Pound cookies, breads and croissants for mixing and matching. And Italian specialties, so Gaglione says, "you'll be able to share our traditions." 

The bright bakery includes a seating area designed for cake consultations. "Every bride deserves that space," Gaglione explained. She envisions sitting with brides to be, providing cake samples for flavor tastings. Each consultation will leave with a colored sketch of the cake in hand.

For Gaglione, it is about doing what you love, and keeping in with the family businesses. She and her husband John own Zippy's Car Wash on William Penn Highway. The bakery is their most recent venture. "We love what we do. It's all about making people happy," she said.

Friday was a family affair: John was working, as was their youngest daughter Julianna, who watched her mother prepare a special order of cupcakes. 

The bakery is located at 3500 Greenway Street, Palmer. The hours of operation are 9am to 4pm Friday, 8am to 4pm Saturday, 8am to 1pm Sunday and open by appointment only Wednesday and Thursday.
