What happens when daffodil bulbs are left in the ground for years? The good news is they multiply. Several years ago I dug up some bulbs where one bulb was planted. I counted 24 all attached in one large clump. 23 were free. The story began for me over twenty years ago. Stella Washko drove into my drive way and gave me daffodil bulbs in a paper bag – like we used at grocery stores. My reaction was I could not accept the gift. Stella said, “No, you don’t understand. Daffodil’s multiple. The bulbs do better when they have room to grow.” She was correct, I did not understand. From that full bag of bulbs over 10,000 have grown. Knowing that I have not transplanted bulbs in some areas for years and that the daffodil leaves are totally dead now, it is a perfect time to transplant bulbs to the bike path garden by Fairview Park in Palmer Township.Two five gallon containers are full of daffodil bulbs ready for their new homes. The pictures included show the dead leaves, bulbs so crowded that they are visible at the surface of the ground, and one of the two five gallon containers full of daffodil bulbs.
