Expanded Forks Community a Big Hit
Get on Board for "Islands of Aloha" Hawaiian Bliss at the Philadelphia International Flower Show on March 9th.

Anyone who was on the hockey bus trip to the Devils/Flyers game will give the day rave reviews! Well, maybe not so much the Devil’s fans that saw their team go down 4-1.
Decked out in Flyer’s orange and black jerseys, sweaters and hats, or Devil’s red jackets, Forks folks had good seats above center ice with plenty to clap and cheer about. When the scoreboard listed names of all visiting groups and organizations, a sign lit up welcoming “Forks Township PA Recreation” fans.
Despite the snow and sleet, spirits were high on the Forks bus bringing rabid hockey fans to Newark’s Prudential Center. Families with small children had a swell day, as did seasoned fans of all ages including grandparents.

The hockey trip was the fifth sponsored bus trip successfully organized by Recreation Director Rachael Salzbach. A March 2011 initial trip to the Philadelphia Convention Center for the “Springtime in Paris” Flower Show brought a busload of Forks gardeners to a day in floral heaven. Garden enthusiasts brought back new tools, bulbs, plants and many new floral ideas after enjoying a taste of early spring.
Baseball fans last July cheered at the Mets/Phillies game on a sold out trip. The August Pennsylvania Dutch tour to Lancaster’s Kitchen Kettle Amish shops followed a dinner theatre production of the “Wizard of Oz.” Two full buses, filled with Forks holiday shoppers, left for New York City on December 4th, 2011, also with tickets to see the Rockets Christmas Show at Radio City Music Hall.

While surrounding towns have provided many varied recreation opportunities for some time, it was a hope that by hiring a professional recreation manager, Forks too, would broadly expand well beyond its fine youth sports programs to sponsor events for residents of all ages.
The bus tours are a wonderful beginning. Incidentally, tickets are now on sale for the 2012 Philadelphia International Flower Show with a theme of “Islands of Aloha,” Hawaiian bliss.
