It's Cheaper to Demolish "Cottage in the Woods"
Saving the "Cottage in the Woods" might cost three times as much as demolishing it, according to Forks Township estimates.

While a committee has formed to save "The Cottage in the Woods," estimates by officials indicate the cost of saving it might be three times as much as the cost of demolishing it.
According to estimates included in the township's five-year parks and recreation plan, it would cost $23,600 to make the repairs necessary for the cottage to be to be used by groups such as the township's Art and Historical societies.
But officials have determined that demolishing the structure at 700 Zucksville Road could cost between $8,000 and $9,500.

That would explain why township officials aren't in any rush to make a decision, especially since many in the township have rallied around saving the cottage.
In a recent Palmer/Forks Patch.com poll, 62 of 66 voters said the should be spared from the wrecking ball and turned over to the organizations for use.

A committee was recently formed in hopes of raising funds to pay for the repairs and refurbishing of the cottage.

- Roof Repairs -- $2,400
- Electrical Improvements -- $7,200
- Window Replacement -- $5,000
- Gutters -- $2,000
- Masonry Work -- $3,800
- Painting -- $2,700
- Floor joists/support -- $500
