"Hairspray" Coming to Easton High School

The production will be the high school's Freddy entry this year.

Easton Area High School thespians are presenting “Hairspray” this coming weekend, after months of preparations, fund raising, and rehearsals.

“This is the first year (the play “Hairspray”is) available to us, so we put in for it right away,” said the play's director Butch DiMinico. “We had the perfect kids for the cast, but it's still quite an undertaking.”

Producer Jenna Barton, who is also a kindergarten teacher at Forks Elementary School, agreed.

“We fundraise everything for the production,” she said, noting the effort began last November after auditions. The choice of play was announced last June, she added.

In all, 174 students are involved, from cast to stage, sound and lighting crews, Barton said. For the 67 cast members, there are 25 students on the hair and makeup team. The music department will contribute the pit orchestra.
