Moyer Aviation to Take Flight from Forks

The possible sale of Braden Airpark has Vern Moyer sold on one thing: It's time for Moyer Aviation to take flight from Forks Township.

Moyer is moving his aviation operation to the Poconos starting May 1 after 16 years of his small planes flying all around Forks Township, the Easton-Express states.

The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority has the Sullivan Trail site on its list of properties for potential sale to reduce mounting debt, and a decision is expected in the near future.

But Moyer's decision completely caught Forks Township officials off guard.

"This is an interesting and sad turn of events," Supervisor David Billings said. “Moyer Aviation has been a pillar of our community for a long time. I would need to better understand the details of the move."

Forks officials have met with the airport authority's consultant, the Rockefeller Group, and have asked for updates on any developments.

Billings said he wondered whether Moyer's move signaled that Braden Airpark would be sold. He believes the airport authority needs to inform the Forks Township Board of Supervisors about this latest development.

Township Manager John Cornell, Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss and Supervisors Bob Egolf and John O'Neil did not return emails late last week seeking comment.

In the meeting with the airport authority, Forks officials provided an overview of the 80-acre site, went through all of the zoning while airport representatives asked about possible zoning for industrial and commercial uses and also provided an aerial of the tract.
