"We see you driving around; we don't get to meet you but you do a good job." These words were offered by Jeff Raub of Raub Farm in Palmer Township before the township volunteer fire department received a $2,500 check Monday evening at the firehouse.
As the Northampton County winner of the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program, a local organization of Raub’s choosing receives $2,500 from Monsanto Company, a worldwide agricultural firm. Local territory sales manager Curt Cooper presented the check on behalf of the Raub family.
For the Raubs, the fire company was a natural choice since, according to Raub, the fire company was started by farmers. His family has been farming in the township since 1928. The family recently opened a farmer's market, selling, among others items, strawberries, melons, corn, mums and pumpkins.

At the time of the check presentation, the fire company had just finished a routine meeting and accounted for nearly 20 of the people at the informal ceremony.
The Raubs were met with a sea of "thank yous." "Does anyone have anything to say, other than a great big thank you?" asked fire Commissioner Delmar Grube.

The fire company plans to use the money toward the township's annual community weekend. It will purchase a large tent to use at the fair, which is typically held at Fairview Park.
"It's an opportunity for nonprofits to raise money; we support two scholarships," said Grube.
