Uhler Road Railroad Crossing Repaired in Forks Township

The rough ride over the tracks at Uhler Road in Forks Township is smoother now that Norfolk Southern completes the work.

It's a busy stretch in . Uhler Road, just west of the Kesslersville Road intersection, is heavily traveled by cars, trucks and tractor-trailers given its location near many businesses and office parks.

“The railroad crossing at Uhler Road handles a high volume of vehicles, and it had fallen into disrepair to the point that traffic was brought to a virtual halt as cars and trucks creep across the tracks,” said state Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Northampton).

"I am happy to see Norfolk Southern is being a good neighbor and reacting quickly to the pressure we put on them to fix the problem," he said.

Forks Township officials are happy, too.

"I'm glad they've taken care of it," Chairman Erik Chuss said. "It's the first we heard about it in months since complaints were raised. I don't use it, but I heard it was pretty bumpy."

Dave Pidgeon, Norfolk Southern's public relations manager for Pennsylvania, said crews rebuilt the track at the crossing of Uhler Road as well as added a new surface.

Norfolk Southern is also repairing the nearby Kesslerville Road crossing, which should soon open to traffic.

"I was very happy we got Uhler Road crossing fixed," Township Supervisor David Billings said. "It has been an issue for at least six years."

Chuss and Billings said there are other railroad crossings in the township that are also in poor shape.

"I am still worried about the railroad crossing on Sullivan Trail," Billings said. "I look forward to fixing this long-term problem in the very near future."
