Central Perk 8 & Under Travel Team Win Districts and are headed to States!

This past weekend the Central Perk Baseball Fields were alive with an action packed weekend of District 2 Playoffs!  Capping off this exciting weekend was the Championship Game featuring the Central Perk Pirates and the Towamencin Titans. The game was a hard fought one, but in the end the Central Perk team remained undefeated and captured the District 2 Championship for the league!

Head Coach Frank DiMaio credit the win to the total team effort, stating “every one of the boys contributed, which is the essence of TEAM!”

And the numbers are impressive for this young but very talented group.

Game 3 – Souderton Verses Central Perk

For Central Perk the playoffs began against a Souderton Team that previously played a tough scrimmage on the same field a couple of weekends earlier.  But this was a different day and it was a day that would see Central Perk come out firing.  Tommy Hutton lead off the pitching rotation, followed by Jeremy Brewer and Frankie DiMaio.  These three righties combined for a no hitter and an 11-1 victory to start off the day’s games on a strong note.  The game also had a great play in the outfield by Justin “Tin Man” Stasyk, whose grab in Right Center kept the no hitter alive.  The game was put away when Tommy “T-Brick” Bricker singled scoring Mason Sheeley from Third Base in the 4th inning giving the Central Perk team a ten run rule victory with a final score of 11-1.

Game 5 – Towamencin Verses Central Perk

In Game 5 Central Perk squared off against the Towamencin Titans who were fresh off their 5-4 Defeat of Harleysville Friday night and looking to advance to the Championship Game.  But Central Perk had other plans for the game looking to add to its Game 3 victory.

The game started off with a 5-0 lead by Central Perk as they jumped on the Towamencin pitchers in the opening inning.  Central Perk then quickly added to that total with another 5 run inning putting them up 10-0.  Dylan “DC” Crothers helped continue the shut out with a spectacular double play highlighting the exceptional defensive effort the team was displaying this game.  The Three Musketeers continued to dominate with their pitching, winning the game 14-0 allowing Central Perk to advance to the Championship Game.

Game 7 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Towamencin Verses Central Perk

On Sunday the Championship game saw a rematch of the two game 5 teams and the Towamencin Titans were determined to change the luck of the Central Perk 8U team.  In the first inning the Titans came out swinging scoring 3 quick runs in the first.  Central Perk responded by adding two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

The Central Perk squad buckled down in the 2nd inning shutting out the Titans and then quickly followed with a run of their own in the 2nd half to tie up the game at 3.  Pitching for the Central Perk team was again strong in the 3rd inning and their bats were still hot as they entered the bottom of the 3rd with the team scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the inning to give them an 8-3 lead.

The fourth and fifth innings continued with strong pitching performances by both teams as the bats went silent. However the bats of the Titans could no longer be silenced as the teams entered the 6th inning.  The Titans quickly loaded the bases with no outs and the Central Perk squad called on Tommy Miller to fill the role of Jonathan Papelbon and close out the game.

The team made good fielding decisions sacrificing a run for an out and moving 2 outs closer to the role of the Champion.  But the Titans would not quit and quickly loaded the bases again and closed the gap to 8-6.  A line drive sharply hit down the first base line looked like disaster, but then the sure glove of Mason Sheeley snatched the ball out of the air and breathed fresh life into the Central Perk team.

Tommy Miller then loaded the squad up on his shoulders and fired  on the game winning strike to Jake Stasyk to end the game!  Jake knew it was the final out even before the call by the umpire as did the rest of the Central Perk team as they rushed to congratulate each other!

Central Perk and Towamencin have both earned a spot in the state playoffs in Warminster and hope to face off again in the Championship game.
