Why believe the media when you can get it straight from the source? Some, maybe many Americans don't even know a budget was passed.
The House of Representatives passed a budget last week that “does more than balance,” says Speaker Boehner. “It addresses the things that are important to American families” and helps preserve the American Dream."
Says Chairman Paul Ryan in the Weekly Republican Address. “We’re not balancing the budget as an accounting exercise,” he says. “We’re not trying to simply make numbers add up. We’re trying to improve people’s lives.” Watch Chairman Ryan here and read more below.

MORE FROM THE SPEAKER’S BLOG:
- CHART: Comparing the budgets: How is Washington tackling our long-term debt crisis? Republicans have a balanced budget; the plan to be offered by President Obama never balances. See and share our chart here.
- Why balance the budget? “I want to hand my kids and grandkids the same shot at the American Dream that I had,” says Speaker Boehner. “Not some mountain of debt.” The GOP budget cuts spending, fixes our tax code to create jobs and increase wages, and protects important priorities like Medicare.
- Balancing the budget to grow our economy & expand opportunity: The GOP budget cuts wasteful spending, fixes our broken tax code to create jobs and increase wages, and protects priorities like Medicare and defense.
- Improving the lives of American families: “Our balanced budget means more economic security for workers and parents, a more secure retirement for the elderly and more opportunities for younger workers,” wrote Speaker Boehner in the Washington Post.
- President Clinton made balancing the budget a bipartisan priority … President Obama could too, says Speaker Boehner in a new video.
- President Obama has no plan to balance the budget: While the president’s budget is now six weeks late, White House budget writers are not using this extra time to find a way to actually eliminate the deficit – ever.
- Neither do Senate Democrats: After four years without a budget, Senate Democrats produced one of the “most left-wing budgets of the modern era” – a “status quo, only more so” plan with more spending, tax hikes, and debt.
- Nothing “balanced” about a budget that doesn’t: “The Democrats who run Washington love to talk about a ‘balanced approach’,” says Speaker Boehner. “But there’s nothing ‘balanced’ about a budget that never gets to balance.”
- The “tour de farce,” one year later: One year after the president’s “energy tour” to Cushing, OK, Speaker Boehner again called on him to stop blocking American jobs and approve the Keystone XL pipeline.
- Expanding energy production: The GOP budget also unlocks American energy production and gives the green light to projects like Keystone XL.
- Putting job-seekers in the driver’s seat: The House-passed SKILLS Act updates our nation’s job-training system, eliminating and streamlining programs to make it easier to get the right skills for the right jobs.
- Here’s why the GOP’s balanced budget repeals ObamaCare: Hint – it’s raising premiums on young Americans and middle class families, making it harder for small businesses to hire, and adding to our spending problem.
- ObamaCare’s third anniversary: “The American people were sold a 3,000 page bill of goods,” says Speaker Boehner. “The longer this law stays in place, the more costly it becomes for American families and small businesses…”
- Preserving welfare work requirements: The House voted to prevent the Obama administration from undermining the 1996 welfare reform’s work requirement that is central to helping millions of Americans out of poverty.
