How you Feel vs. How you Function

Dr. Kyle Klim from Swede Family Chiropractic describes the difference in how you feel and the way your body functions.

Did you know that only 10% of your nervous system is dedicated to how you feel? The sensory portion of the nervous system, which is how you feel things like temperature and pain, is one of the smallest indicators of what is going on inside your body.

Not only that, but it takes roughly a 60% decrease in your nervous system output before your body even begins to feel (sensory) that anything is going on.

The other 90% of your nervous system is dedicated to the actual function of your body. There is your motor system which controls your muscles, and your autonomic system which controls your blood vessels, organs, and glands.

When there is dysfunction in your motor system, your body may begin to experience such things as weakness, tightness, muscle spasms, or fatigue. If there is dysfunction in your autonomic system, your body can experience such things as sleep problems, headaches, asthma, allergies, digestive problems, infertility, and more.

So, judging your health just by the way you feel may not be the best strategy. Figuring out what systems in your body are actually functioning properly or not can help you make better decisions about how to take control of your healing process.

At our office, we use a specialized computerized scan of the nervous system to show you what is working and what may not be. This can help us determine where there is dysfunction in the spine and nervous system.
