Perk Valley Raiders Take Weekend Split

The Perk Valley Raiders 14-15 y/o American Legion baseball team (10-3, 9-2) split their games this past weekend vs. Norristown Rec and Whitemarsh.

Saturday June 16 - In Saturday's game, Raiders pitchers Adam Gaines and Tyler Krause teamed up for 10 strikeouts, no walks, and no runs for a no-hit 12-0 shutout over Norristown Rec.  Gaines had an impressive outing holding Norristown Rec hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.   Krause came on to finish out the game - pitching 3 innings, recording 7 strikeouts, allowing no walks and no runs.

Eight runs in the opening three innings allowed the Raiders to easily put away Norristown Rec.  The Raiders’ John Turner led their potent offense going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, and an RBI.  Ryan Light, Sean Moriarity, Jake Riehs and Tyler Krause contributed 2 hits each.  RBI singles by Riehs  and Turner in the first inning followed by an RBI double by Light in the second fueled the Raiders' offense early.  The Raiders' Turner, Riehs and Krause combined for seven hits and five RBIs. PV increased their lead with five runs in the third.  An error scored Turner to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by Krause's single, scoring Vinny DiLeonardo and Sonny Rennard. The Raiders built upon their lead with three runs in the fourth.  A clutch sacrifice fly scored Liam Grande to open the scoring in the frame.  That was followed up by Elijah Landes's double, plating DiLeonardo.

Sunday June 17 - the PV Raiders fell 6-0 to a solid Whitemarsh team at Miles Park Field.  The Raiders were held to just 2 hits, singles from Tyler Krause and Jake Riehs. Trent Tyson started on the mound for the Raiders and was relieved by Sean Moriarity then Gabe Kolb.  Center fielder Liam Grande had two spectacular putout attempts that went awry during the game.   A throw to home and a throw to first base, both from deep center field, were bare misses in the putout column.  The PV Raiders are now tied for 1st place with Wissahickon in the Montco American Legion.
