Evergreen Elementary Students Hold Annual Colonial Expo
Parents, children, visitors choose their 'vacation' destinations.
While time travel isn't quite within the human race's grasp, Evergreen Elementary School fifth graders gave fellow students and visitors a glimpse at the past during the annual Colonial Expo.
As part of their social studies class, the groups of students served as "travel agents" for a particular colony. Fourth graders and visitors weaved among the rows of cafeteria tables that displayed posters for the colonies; each one was manned by a group of students, some of whom donned costumes. Students recited facts on their respective colony and offered brochures, trying to tempt guests with a "trip."
Fifth-grade teacher Kevin Tomlinson said it was great to see the kids embrace their creativity while doing this project.
"You can see who wants to go the extra mile," Tomlinson said. "These days, with such an emphasis on testing, it's great to see them get into a project with a creative element."
