The name amaranthus comes from the Greek word meaning "unfading" which refers to the long-lasting flowers in this family which can last from 7 - 10 days. Flowers include upright and hanging amaranthus, cockscomb, and celosia. I love to work with the feathery look of celosia; the velvety appearance of cockscomb, and the "dripping" of hanging amaranthus in centerpieces. These flowers come in an array of colors including red, dark pink, green, yellow, and orange. They are available starting in Summer through the early Fall and can be grown in your garden. These flowers would work perfectly for a vintage wedding theme.
