Getting to Know Cut Flowers - Football Chrysanthemums

Football chrysanthemums have the largest and fullest blooms of the chrysanthemum family.They are available all year in colors that include;  white, yellow, gold, and bronze.  While fuji mums have petals that extend outwards, football mums have large incurving petals or reflexing blooms. In the South, these mums may be called Homecoming Mums.

White peonies are a very expensive wedding flower available only in Spring.  However, white football mums closely resemble peonies and are available all year around.  And cost only a fraction of the price of a peony! Perfect for a bride who either can't afford the more expensive flower or wants peonies out of season.

Besides using the white football mums for bouquets, I also use the large football mums in centerpieces both high and low as well as in ceremony flowers. Because mums are very sturdy and last a long time, they are an ideal flower to use for outside ceremony work.
