High School Softball: Vikings Move Ahead of Methacton in Playoff hunt with 13-3 win over Tribe
The final score was Perkiomen Valley 13, Upper Perk 3.
A mark of a good team is the ability to respond to adversity quickly. Noting that, Perkiomen Valley proved once again Thursday that it is, in fact, a good team.
Still reeling from Wednesday’s gut-wrenching loss to unbeaten Owen J. Roberts, the Vikings took the field with one collective mindset—get a win any way you can.
Perk Valley did that and more by smacking around visiting Upper Perkiomen, handing the Indians a mercy-rule-shortened 13-3 five-inning drubbing in which Tori Marcavage and Kelsey Lewullis both crushed home runs.

Marcavage was in complete control on the mound, striking out three and walking two, while scattering four hits and only allowing two earned runs in the defeat of the Tribe.
“They are a good hitting team,” said Marcavage. “We can’t take anyone lightly; we need to win games against teams we should beat. We again have let a couple games slip away that we need to make up for.”

The Vikings got on the board in second when Kelsey Lewullis, who has hit safely in her last seven official at bats, scurried home following a past ball.
Lewullis had drilled a ball down the line and later hit a three-run home run in the third and again singled in the fifth to drive in Marcavage with the final run of the game.
“Kelsey has been swinging the bat great all year,” said Sara Samarini. “We got hits today when we needed them, which has not been the case all year. We have to keep working on being able to drive in runs when we have people on base.”
The Vikings capitalized on Indians pitching by cashing in on only eight hits, scoring 13 runs and leaving only four runners on base.
In the bottom of the fourth, Perk Valley posted five runs while recording three hits in the inning, including Marcavage’s round tripper and Jess White’s double.
With the win, Perkiomen Valley crept ahead of Methacton in the standings by one half game with a 5-3 record in league play. The Vikings will travel to Fairview Village to play the Warriors on Wednesday in the biggest game of the year, where their playoffs hopes and season hang in the balance.
“We know what me need to do against them,” said Marcavage, who went 2-for-3 with five RBIs, a triple and a home run. “We lost the first game against them this year when we out hit and outplayed them. We need to make sure we are ready to play and keep hitting the ball.”
“I am looking forward to this week,” added Samarini. “If we play our game, we can beat anyone. We need to play good defense and attack on the bases, if we get our hits when we need, it will really help our confidence. It was very important to take care of our own business today.”
