Philadelphial Folk Festival Kicks Off
Attendees are settled in and ready for the music.
It's been 50 years of "'Folkin' Fun," as one of the signs states at the Philadelphia Folk Festival at Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford. The annual event kicked off Thursday and will run through Sunday.
Virtual neighborhoods of tents filled the grounds, and families, groups of friends and individuals made their temporary residences extra "homey" with decor such as handmade signs, couches, hammocks, windchimes and various musical instruments.
Refreshment stands, a clothing "shop" and even a general store are also on the grounds and open for business.

Many attendees have been to the fest in previous years—and decades —and named "seeing friends" as the best part of the festival.
While traversing the grounds, it's not unusual to see people visiting different tents and offering drawn out "Hiiiiiiii"s and hugs to familiar faces. Other people held impromptu singalongs in their tents, and one man was entertained fellow festival-goers by playing on PVC pipes.
