Raiders Down Valley Forge

Tyson comes through in the clutch as Perk Valley comes from behind to win

Thanks to the Perk Valley Raiders for submitting this game report:

Perk Valley Raiders head coach Ryan Hinkle has his 14/15 year old American Legion baseball team running on all cylinders.  The resilient ball club had another, late inning come-from-behind victory over a solid Valley Forge team.  Trent Tyson drove in the winning run to give the Raiders the lead in the sixth inning, as the Raiders hung on to beat Valley Forge 6-3 on Tuesday.

Valley Forge jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. There was no further scoring until the fifth when the Raiders put one on the board.

Austin Lee singled to start the sixth. He then went from second to third on an error. Finally, Tyson came to the plate with the score tied at two, and walked, scoring Lee. The Raiders didn't give up the lead after the sixth inning. Additional runs came from two Valley Forge errors and a groundout RBI by the PV Raider's catcher John Turner.  Shortstop Adam Gaines and first baseman Sonny Rennard also contributed with 1 hit and 1 RBI each.

One run in the bottom of the seventh helped Valley Forge close its deficit to 6-3. An RBI single initiated a potential Valley Forge rally. The Raiders' Morarity shut down the rally, inducing Valley Forge's final batter to line out to PV's left fielder, Austin Lee, to close things out.

Starting pitcher Tyler Krause was lights out looking very sharp on the mound. Krause held Valley Forge hitless over 3 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked five and struck out five.  Krause's gold glove on the mound was evident.  He had two put outs, one of them on a spectacular play where he knocked down a line drive, retrieved the ball, and fired a bullet to first baseman Sonny Rennard get the out.

Sean Morarity got the win in relief for the Raiders. Morarity pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed just one run.

The PV Raiders will take on Pottstown, JP Mascaro (Methacton), and the Plymouth Mounties this Fri, Sat, and Sunday.
