Schwenksville to Run for Berardi in 5K

Community members, on behalf of the Rich Berardi Memorial Fund, approached theon August 9 for approval of the first 5K run and 3K walk which will raise money for its scholarship to benefits junior firefighters.

The Rich Berardi Scholarship, named after a Schwensville firefighter who died in October of lymphoma, plans to raise $1000 dollars for the Schwenksville junior firefighters.

Council members unanimously approved the event, agreed to waive the permit fee, and to donate $100 to the cause.

“The donation is going to benefit junior firefighters in the community, and therefore is a justifiable expense,” said Council President Arthur Fairclough.

The proposed route of the 5K has changed several times throughout its planning, and now will pass through several boroughs, therefore will need to be approved by those municipalities as well.

The event is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 29, beginning and ending at Schwenksville Elementary School.
