9Round Kickboxing Gym Opens in McMurray

No class times, total body workouts in 30 minutes, personal attention without the high price

9Round, the nation’s fastest-growing kickboxing gym franchise, will celebrate the Grand Opening of its McMurray location on Saturday, December 6th. The new gym, the second one to open in the state, is located in 3339 Washington Road at the Ace Plaza. It uses an intense 30-minute workout focused on kickboxing techniques to achieve a total body workout.

“Kickboxing training is growing in popularity for good reason. It works,” said gym co-owner Andrew Chung. “Whether you are a beginner or advanced fitness level, our trainers will help you kick and punch your way to a healthier you. We look forward giving local residents the best workout they’ve ever had, minus the complicated machines or silly aerobic routines.”

Developed by reigning IKF Light Middleweight Kickboxing Champion of the World Shannon “The Cannon” Hudson, 9Round workouts consist of nine, three-minute stations of activities that include cardio, weight training, abdominal exercises and kicks and punches on 100-pound, double-end, upper cut and speed bags. A real boxing bell rings to begin the workout, another to warn the station is ending and a third to signal the end. Members have a 30-second active break between rounds, which means doing small workouts with bags, as well as sit-ups and push-ups.

There are no class times, trainers are always on site, and routines change daily, giving members a fresh workout every time they come in.

Chung and his wife/co-owner Michelle have always had a passion for fitness. Andrew, an analytical chemist, has been playing soccer for most of his life. Meanwhile, Michelle, a chemical engineer, has always been a fan of fitness classes ranging from kickboxing to bootcamps. They want to share this passion with everyone in the community and help people reach their fitness goals.

“Everything is total body. At one station members might do 20 front kicks and 20 push-ups in three minutes. The next day, they might do 20 hooks and 10 jump squats at that station,” Chung said. “We bring these things to the average person, so they feel like a real fighter, like they’re doing something Muhammad Ali would have done.”

9Round of McMurray is open Monday-Thursday: 8:00 am - 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm - 8:00 pm; Friday: 8:30 am - 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm - 7:00 pm; and Saturday: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. The gym is closed on Sundays.

First time visitors get a free 30-minute workout session. For more information, visit or call the club directly at (724) 260-5693.
