'That Guy with the Birds' Headed to Furry Fall Festival

Furry Fall Festival is scheduled for Barktober (Oct.) 6, 2012. Check-in starts at 9 a.m. and the patriotic presentation starts at 10 a.m.

Yes, you heard right.

"That guy with the birds," John Lege, is coming to the DogParty for the third year in a row.

John is a twice-enlisted Vietnam veteran and has chosen to spend his life rescuing abused birds—from the largest of the wild to the tiniest of the fragile. Once you hear the story of a giant macaw that was exiled by humans to a life in a dog crate under a table in their garage, for a dozen years, and see what transformation has taken place, you will understand.

You will understand that there are good people doing good things, contrary to what we hear. Especially when you see Harley, the macaw, in full flight and happy as can be. It took years to bring him to this point, but John stayed the course and Harley is a success story. We can all learn a lesson in humanity. After all, we are put here to look after and care for those that need us ...

Please help to spread the word on the Furry Fall Festival. It's a very simple concept. We have a great time at the DogParty and all of the proceeds go into the Veterans Fund that we set up in the spring of 2010 at the Washington Area Humane Society.

Because of 84 Fitness Center's Veterans Fund, our local veterans no longer pay adoption fees at the WAHS.

Just think of all the souls you will be helping to save—both human and animal.
