New Restaurant Opens, Prepares For Fall
Slate Bistro is in the former Cafe Georgio location on Donati Road.

Former Piccolina's employee Dave Sgro now co-owns a brand new restaurant in the area.
Slate Bistro opened in August—replacing Cafe Georgio on Donati Road in Bethel Park.
After cooking Italian for most of his life, Sgro said he was ready to be more adventurous.

"It's all hand cut and freshly made," Sgro said.
Sgro is currently working with co-owner Cheryl Tacka on October's menu, which will focus on fall foods like root vegetables and squashes.
Inspired by one of his favorite restaurants, Wild Rosemary in Upper St. Clair, Sgro likes to change up the menu to give customers a new experience during every visit.
"The food that we cook, and even when we teach our cooks, we don't want to serve you anything we wouldn't want to eat," Sgro said.
Sgro has spent his entire life around food. As a child, he washed dishes and did odd jobs at this family's four-star restaurant on Campbells Run Road—Sgro's Steakhouse.
"I didn't have a chance to do anything else in life," he said.
Slate Bistro on 24 Donati Road is open from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
