Peters Student Named National Science Scholar

The 17-year-old high school student was one of just six Society for Science & the Public scholars from Pennsylvania.

PETERS TOWNSHIP, PA - A Peters Township High School student has been named a 2018 scholar in the Society for Science & The Public’s Regeneron science talent search.

Nicole Munne, 17, was selected for having developed an invitro human liver model for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Munne was one of just six scholars chosen from Pennsylvania and the lone one from southwestern Pennsylvania.

Begun in 1942, the talent search is prestigious pre-college science and math competition whose alumni hold more than 100 of the world’s most
distinguished science and math honors - including the Nobel Prize and the National Medal of Science.

Each year, 300 Regeneron STS scholars and their schools are recognized. Forty finalists then are invited to Washington, D.C. in March to participate in final judging, display their work to the public, meet with notable scientists, and compete for awards, including the top award of $250,000.
