Peters Wrestling Matches To Benefit Wounded Marine
The 6th annual Match for a Marine occurs Wednesday.

PETERS TOWNSHIP, PA - Doug Vitale gave a lot for his country, and the Peters Township School District again will attempt to give something back to the former United States Marine. The district will hold the 6th annual Match for a Marine Event Wednesday at the junior and senior high school wrestling matches.
All admissions, T-shirt sales, concessions and 50-50 raffle proceeds will go to the Doug Vitale Fund benefiting the Peters resident, Marine sergeant and former wrestler. In 2011, Vitale was in Afghanistan when he stepped on a pressure-plated improvised explosive device. He lost both legs above the knee and suffered strokes on both sides of his brain.
Thanks largely to the efforts of McMurray VFW Post 764 and others, enough money was raised in 2014 to build a “smart house” on Longleaf Drive where Vitale and his wife, Alexis, reside today.
