1 Whole Chicken A Day For 40 Days: Philly 'Chicken Man' Reaches 'Goal'
We're not sure why, but a Philadelphia man has eaten one whole chicken a day for 40 days. The feat is being heralded as an iconic moment.

PHILADELPHIA — When cities have to say things like "keep Austin weird," it takes away from any and all weirdness by co-opting said weirdness into a business-like catchphrase.
But here in Philadelphia, we don't need a slogan about how zany our denizens are.
And on the heels of greased pole climbing comes a man with a... mission? We're not sure.

For 40 days, Alexander Tominsky has eaten a whole chicken.
Mostly, his first 39 chickens went eaten unnoticed.

But the man took to social media and old-school marketing to advertise his 40th and final chicken.
A viral post showed a flyer attached to a Philadelphia street pole.
It showed pictures of the 31-year-old server eating a roast chicken with this wording
Come watch me eat an entire rotisserie chicken. November 6th will be the 40th consecutive day that I have eaten an entire rotisserie chicken. 12 o'clock noon. The chicken will be consumed on the abandoned pier near Walmart. This is not a party.
And you bet at noon on Sunday Tominsky was at the old pier and a crowd gathered, despite it not being a party.
Ahead of his "feat," Tominsky tweeted, "I hope they greased the poles."
Tominsky finished his 40th chicken in about 20 minutes to the fanfare of dozens of onlookers, per social media accounts.

Philadelphia was reeling at the time of his "accomplishment."
The day before, the Philadelphia Union lost to the Los Angeles Football Club in the Major League Soccer championship, and the Phillies were defeated in Game 6 of the World Series by the Houston Astros.
So Philadelphians were in need of a "win," of course.

It's unclear why Tominsky did this, but most people don't seem to care and have embraced it as just another folk story out of our city.
And for the foreseeable future, Tominsky will be known as "Philadelphia Chicken Man."
Well done.
We think.
