2024 South 9th Street Italian Market Festival: What You Need To Know
The annual festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and yes, it will feature the greased pole climbing event.
PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia's Italian Market this weekend will be packed with people, vendors, music, and of course teams trying to climb a greased pole.
The South 9th Street Italian Market Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday on seven city blocks.
Events will take place both days from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

More than 100 vendors will be offering crafts, services, souvenirs, and more. There will also be food and drink from various purveyors.

Music will fill the air at two stages, one at the corner of Ninth and Christian streets and another at Ninth Street and Washington Avenue.
On Saturday, the Washington Avenue stage will feature Variable Elements from noon to 2 p.m., DJ Eric Bartello from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Amanda and Teddy from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, the stage will feature Juliano Brothers from noon to 2 p.m., and Philly Heart and Soul 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The 9th & Christian Street Stage both Saturday and Sunday will feature DJ Timmy DeSimone. On Sunday, the Tavolo Zona will feature DJ Eric Bartello.
Pole climbing will take place at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Ninth and Montrose streets. Teams will compete in climbing to the top of a lard-greased 30-foot pole to reach prizes of meats, cheeses, gifts, and money.
The John Marzano Half Ball Tournament will begin at 9 a.m. in the schoolyard of Christopher Columbus Charter School on Christian Street between Ninth and 10th streets. Five-person teams will play in the tournament that serves the legacy of South Philadelphia’s native son, John Marzano.
The Procession of Saints will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday. It will start at the historic Saint Mary Magdalen de’ Pazzi Church, 712 Montrose St. Pausing for the Blessing of the Market at 9th and Washington, the procession will proceed along South Ninth Street to Christian Street, and concludes at St. Paul Catholic Church, 808 S. Hutchinson Street.
The DeerPark Hoagie Competition will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Washington Avenue Stage. The winner will get a trophy to display in their shop and a $5,000 to the charity of the winner’s choice.
