6 Arrested After Clash With Philly Police At Pro-Palestinian Protest

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Multiple people were arrested Thursday after pro-Palestinian protesters clashed with police and burned flags outside Philadelphia City Hall, according to authorities and reports.
Philadelphia police confirmed six people were arrested during the protest that began at Rittenhouse Square. The rally, dubbed "All Out for Gaza," was organized by the Philly Palestine Coalition, which formed last year in response to Israel's invasion of Gaza following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack.
Police told Action News about 400 people gathered for the rally, during which protesters condemned Israel’s Gaza occupation and demanded an immediate cease-fire.

"We stand with the resistance and support Palestine, not AmeriKKKA! We don’t celebrate the legacy of genocide, colonialism, and slavery that July 4th symbolizes, but struggle for true LIBERATION for all," rally organizers said on Instagram.
Authorities told Action News that as protesters marched down Chestnut Street, an act of vandalism occurred, prompting police to call in more resources.

Footage of the protest shot by Action News showed several protesters waving Palestinian flags while burning other flags, including one that appeared to be an American flag. At one point, a woman threw several smaller American flags onto the burning pile.
First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford told Action News "that type of behavior absolutely cannot be tolerated."
"We are always open to individuals expressing their First Amendment right. We are here for that purpose, of protecting and making sure that everyone has an ability to do so," Stanford said. "However, once it turns violent, or there's a situation where individuals are going to destroy property, it changes the dynamic of everything."
It's unclear if the arrested protesters will face charges.
