Ambulance Crash Kills Infant, Mother Critical; Driver Suspected Of DUI: Philly Police

The mother remains hospitalized in critical condition as of Monday afternoon, officials said.

FRANKFORD, PA — A driver suspected of being intoxicated crashed an ambulance, killing a 2-month-old infant and critically injuring the mother early Sunday in Philadelphia's Frankford neighborhood, authorities said.

The ambulance struck a car and a pole before flipping onto its side around 5:15 a.m. by the intersection at Torresdale and Harbison avenues, police said. The driver had sped into the intersection and hadn't activated the siren or emergency lights.

The infant and the mother, who were in the ambulance, were flung through the windshield, police said. Both were found on the roadway brought to the hospital, where the baby was pronounced dead.
