24/7 I-95 Closures Add Traffic Headaches For Philly Sports Action

Fans attending games, including 76ers and Flyers playoff action, should leave extra early to get there on time.

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA, PA — Flyers and 76ers playoff action will keep Philly traffic plenty busy. So will a PennDOT road-widening project nearby.

Two Interstate 95 exits near the stadiums will be closed and detoured 24/7 through the next month, PennDOT announced Tuesday.

The closures could increase traffic woes as the Flyers and Sixers return to Philadelphia for their respective playoff series.

Fans have been encouraged to arrive early for Wednesday night's Flyers game, which starts at 7 p.m. at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Two ramps will be closed through approximately May 21 (click the links for maps):

Closures will last 24/7, with possible exceptions. PennDOT is coordinating with the South Philadelphia Sports Complex to reopen one lane on each ramp during high-volume events, when allowable.

Fans attending Wednesday night's Flyers game should expect increased traffic at Exit 17 (Broad Street), according to an announcement from Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Those attending are encouraged to arrive early and alter their routes:

The roadwork is part of a $56.1 million project to make "high-priority" repairs on interstate bridges and ramps, PennDOT says.

During the closure, Front Street drivers will be directed to use Oregon Avenue and turn left onto Columbus Boulevard to access the ramp to northbound I-95.

I-95 southbound drivers will be detoured to to exit at Broad Street (Route 611), turn right onto Broad Street (Route 611), and turn right onto Packer Avenue to access Front Street.

The project is federally funded, PennDOT says.
