Tiny Whole Foods Coming To Philly, With City's First 'Daily Shop'

PHILADELPHIA — Whole Foods is bringing a smaller-format concept store to Philadelphia.

Whole Foods Market Daily Shop stores are a fraction of the size of a standard Whole Foods. The stores, which launched in 2024, are designed for convenience rather than all-in-one grocery shopping.

Amazon, which owns Whole Foods, announced that the company has signed a lease to open a Daily Shop in Philadelphia.

The store — along with the first Daily Shop locations in Boston and Chicago — are expected to open within the next two years.

Designed for dense cities, Daily Shops are designed to highlight high-demand items. Each store carries meals, pantry staples and grab-and-go options.

The format also lets Whole Foods test new approaches for store designs and presentations, according to Amazon executives.

"These stores are designed with intention at every level, from layout to assortment," said Stephanie Curley, senior manager of innovation for Whole Foods and Amazon. "We’re able to introduce new merchandising approaches and fixtures that make it easier for customers to find what they need, while still delivering the quality and discovery they expect from Whole Foods Market."

Philadelphia's store will be located at 2221-2225 South St., near 23rd Street.

It's about 1.5 miles down the road from Whole Foods of Center City, where workers voted last year to form the first union in the grocery chain's history.
