PHILADELPHIA — In just a few weeks, Philadelphia will begin hosting a slew of FIFA World Cup matches.
Six matches will take place at Lincoln Financial Field, which has temporarily rebranded as "Philadelphia Stadium" for the tournament.
World Cup play in Philly will close out with a Round of 16 match on July 4, when the city becomes the epicenter for the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Lincoln Financial Field has never hosted a men's World Cup game, but the stadium has hosted major soccer matches before.
When the stadium opened in 2003, its first ticketed event was a sold-out soccer match between Manchester United and FC Barcelona.
Later that year, the stadium hosted several FIFA Women's World Cup matches, which were some of the tournament's highest-attended fixtures.
