PHILADELPHIA — Jefferson Methodist Hospital in South Philadelphia reopened Saturday after a power outage forced the hospital to evacuate patients a few days earlier.
The power went out Tuesday evening after roughly 3 feet of water flooded the basement, causing the backup generators located there to fail, according to NBC10.
About 120 patients were evacuated and transferred to other local facilities.
The hospital reopened Saturday morning with approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, according to Jefferson Health.
"We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to the successful response effort and helped ensure the safety and well-being of our patients," Jefferson CEO Dr. Joseph G. Cacchione said in a statement.
Jefferson Methodist Hospital is located at 2301 S Broad St. in Philadelphia's Lower Moyamensing neighborhood.
