PHILADELPHIA — Reading Terminal Market will expand outdoors this summer with a pop-up outdoor plaza.
The Plaza at Reading Terminal Market will open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the 1100 block of Filbert Street. It will last from June 8 through Aug. 2, coinciding with Philly's summer of FIFA World Cup activities, the nation's 250th anniversary and the MLB All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park.
According to Reading Terminal Market, the project will transform 15,000 square feet of Filbert Street into an outdoor gathering space. The plaza is set to include expanded seating, live entertainment, local vendors, sponsor activations and a bar operated by Molly Malloy's.
Market Day Stalls on the Plaza will feature more than 15 rotating local entrepreneurs selling handmade goods, artwork, apparel, candles, cosmetics and other specialty products. Reading Terminal Market also said it will operate a Market Merch cart with limited-edition soccer- and market-themed apparel, with proceeds benefiting the Reading Terminal Market Corporation — the public market's nonprofit steward.
"In preparation for the busy summer ahead, we asked ourselves how we could be the best version of Reading Terminal Market possible," Reading Terminal Market CEO Annie Allman said in a statement. "The answer was to get creative in utilizing every inch of our available public space to create joy for locals and visitors alike as they experience everything Philadelphia as to offer."
Visitors will also find lawn games including corn hole and oversized Jenga, along with oversized Adirondack chairs for photos, according to the market.
