Lebron James Sixers Decision Could Come Monday

PHILADELPHIA, PA — All time great basketball star Lebron James is expected to announce his decision on where he will play next season any day now. That day could be Monday.

The Philadelphia 76ers are among the final three favorites for where he will land, along with two of his former teams, the Miami Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Golden State Warriors may still linger in the race as a dark horse.

Numerous hints have been dropped indicating that an announcement is imminent.

"I won't hold you guys up too much longer," James said during the Fanatics Fan Fest last Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Former NBA player Patrick Beverley, a teammate of Lebron's in Los Angeles, added credence to an imminent decision Monday morning.

"Rumor has it Bron makes his decision today!!!" he said on X.

But ESPN's Shams Charania hedged that Monday afternoon following a conversation with Lebron's agent, Rich Paul.

"There is no decision, no choice yet, no timetable on a choice as of yet," Charania said.

A few other hints are further fueling the fire of an imminent decision: NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said that the league was waiting to finalize its 2026-27 schedule based on Lebron's decision, putting pressure on the announcement to come sooner rather than later.

There's also been wide speculation that James was waiting for the conclusion of other major sports events, like last week's MLB All Star Game and the World Cup, to announce his choice without headline competition.

James met with Sixers owner Josh Harris briefly last Friday. He has documented connections to Sixers president Mike Gansey (they knew each other as high school basketball stars in Ohio) and Tyrese Maxey (they workout together in the offseason and share an agent). James has also been heavily recruited in public by Sixers stars Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown.
