PHILADELPHIA — A decade after a Philadelphia man's vehicle was torched and his body was found in the Schuylkill River, a woman has been charged with murder.
Northeast Philly resident Vito Maglio was reported missing in late 2014, after he was last seen leaving a local restaurant. Investigators found his vehicle two days later, which had been scorched in the aftermath of a fire.
Three months later, police say Maglio's remains were found in the river, near the East Falls Bridge. He'd been shot multiple times.
But for 11 years, the case remained unresolved.
However, an arrest was made this week.
Melanie Morat, 30, of Philadelphia, was charged with murder, conspiracy, robbery and arson. She was denied bail Wednesday, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 24.
No other information was immediately available, including Morat's relationship to Maglio or any new developments that led to the charges.
The Defender Association of Philadelphia, which has a public defender representing Morat, didn't immediately return comment to Patch.
