PHILADELPHIA, PA — The new superteam Philadelphia 76ers will start off the 2026-27 season in Madison Square Garden against the defending champion New York Knicks, the NBA announced Tuesday. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Two days later on Oct. 22, the Sixers will make their home debut against LeBron James's former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The league has also announced a Christmas Day game against another former LeBron squad, the Los Angeles Lakers. That game will be in LA at 5 p.m.
The Sixers starting five are expected to rapidly drive up ticket prices. Though tickets are not officially for sale through the team, professional ticket brokers have listed speculative seats on platforms like Vivid Seats. Opening night seats for the Knicks game start at $2,000, and range up to $11,000. The cheapest tickets on the platform for the home opener with the Cavaliers are $654.
The Sixers feature a superstar starting five unlike anything put together in the league in years, and they will undoubtedly be at the center of national attention for the entire season. The stunning signing of LeBron on July 24 completed a starting five that also added Jaylen Brown in a separate shocking deal with the Boston Celtics on July 1.
They add four-time MVP James and five time All Star Brown to a group that already includes former MVP Joel Embiid, All NBA selection Tyrese Maxey, and one of the best young players in the game, VJ Edgecombe.

Only those three Sixers games have been announced thus far. The remainder of the schedule is expected to be released this Thursday, Aug. 13, at 3 p.m.
