PHILADELPHIA — Police are seeking a man accused of fatally shooting an off-duty officer in Southwest Philadelphia, offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to his arrest.
The unidentified suspect shot and killed an off-duty Philadelphia police officer early Sunday outside a lounge on the 7200 block of Elmwood Avenue, authorities said.
Another man was injured in the shooting.
The slain officer was identified as Alhassane Barry. He was 29.
On Tuesday morning, Philadelphia Police shared photos of a suspect in the case. The Department has offered a $20,000 award for information leading to an arrest or conviction.
"The male is described as approximately 6 feet tall, with a thin to medium build, dark complexion, and medium to bushy cropped hair," police said. "He is believed to be in his mid-to-late 20s and was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket, black pants, a light blue surgical mask, and black sneaker-style boots. He also had a long key chain hanging from the back of his pants and was wearing a large wristwatch."
Before the shooting, the man was seen walking from the area of 73rd Street and Buist Avenue, police said. Afterward, he ran southbound on 73rd Street from Buist Avenue.
