Dancing, listening to music and flower arranging make up a typical day for Julie Patillo, who turned 108 (yes, 108!) in August. The perennially young-at-heart centenarian, a resident of Logan Square Enhanced Senior Living, the personal care component of Fountain View at Logan Square in Philadelphia, was surrounded by family, friends, members of her church, fellow residents and staff at her recent birthday celebration.

Festivities included live music, dancing and cake, of course. "Julie is one of a kind!" said Timothy Stout, director of life enrichment at Logan Square Enhanced Senior Living. "She lights up every room with her joy and positivity. We feel lucky to have Julie in our lives, and it was a true pleasure to give her the celebration that she deserves."

Born on August 5, 1918, Patillo was an elementary school teacher in Philadelphia. "I very much enjoyed teaching," said the centenarian. "The students always made me feel young again."

Becoming a grandmother stands out as one of her fondest memories, and Patillo is proud to have many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love of music is a life-long passion, and she remembers the transformative invention of FM radio, which enabled her to listen to live jazz broadcasts at home.

The Logan Square Enhanced Senior Living resident has a clear message when asked what advice she would give a younger person today. "Have fun and don't worry too much. It will all work out," the 108-year-old notes.
