• Driver Dead, Passenger Critical After Car Hits Pillar on West Girard Avenue (philadelphiaweekly.com) — A 25-year-old woman died and a 24-year-old passenger remains in critical condition after their car hit a concrete support pillar on West Girard Avenue near the Philadelphia Zoo early Saturday morning. Police say the heavily damaged Nissan Altima struck a Market-Frankford Line support column, and the Crash Investigation Division is still working to determine what caused the driver to lose control on this busy corridor.
• How Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies honored a 5-year-old who battled cancer (cbsnews.com) — Families dealing with childhood cancer were honored Sunday at Citizens Bank Park as the Phillies hosted their 10th annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Day, partnering with Nemours Children's Health. One highlight was 5-year-old cancer survivor Jeremiah Lee meeting Bryce Harper, hitting a ceremonial home run, and circling the bases, while fans in yellow showed strong support for affected children and parents.
• Philadelphia bystanders lifted a car to save a woman who was trapped underneath (inquirer.com) — Bystanders in suburban Prospect Park, outside Philadelphia, rushed to lift a Volkswagen Beetle off an e-bike rider trapped beneath it after a collision during a right turn. Working together with a responding officer, they freed the 44-year-old Ridley Park woman within a minute; she was hospitalized with upper body injuries but is expected to recover, drawing praise from local police for their courage.
