Philly Infant Drowned To Death After Mother Drunkenly Put Her In Hotel Spa Tub: DA

The drowning happened at a hotel in Lancaster County, authorities said.

LEACOCK TOWNSHIP, PA — A Philadelphia woman was charged with involuntary manslaughter after authorities say her infant drowned in a Lancaster County hotel's spa tub while she was drunk.

Diontae Nicole Beckett, 25, is accused of drunkenly placing her 5-month-old daughter in the tub May 11 at a hotel in Leacock Township. The baby later drowned to death, says the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office.

Beckett was staying at the hotel with her baby. Surveillance footage from the lobby that night shows her carrying the victim, who appears lifeless, authorities said.

Several hotel guests called 911 and tried to render aid before first responders arrived.

A chemical test of Beckett's breath revealed she had a blood-alcohol content of 0.149 percent at the time, authorities said.

On July 15, Beckett was charged with felony endangering welfare of children and involuntary manslaughter. She was released that day after posting $100,000 bail.

She's set to return to court Sept. 25 for formal arraignment.

Beckett doesn't have a listed attorney in online court records who could comment on her behalf.
