New Video Rental Store Coming Soon In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA — Movie-rental stores in Philadelphia will no longer be a memory with the arrival of Little Movie Store, set to open in October.

Little Movie Store, coming to South Philly, plans to stock thousands of videos and DVDs for rent. There will be no rental fees — customers can borrow movies for an annual $160 fee.

Members can take out up to three movies at once and keep them for up to 14 days. There are no daily late fees, but you can't check out more movies while something is overdue. And if a movie is 30 days past due, Little Movie Store will consider it lost and charge market rate to replace it.

Although video stores have declined, Philadelphia still shows signs of their past. Despite Blockbuster closing the bulk of its stores in 2013, a Blockbuster sign still stands tall outside the former store on 24th Street and Passyunk Avenue. Another shop labeled "Philadelphia's Last Video Store" in Northeast Philly closed a couple years ago, after the death of owner Dominick Paolino.
