PHILADLEPHIA, PA — Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts played through a blood clot in Saturday's game against Jacksonville and will not be available for this weekend's battle with the Carolina Panthers, the team announced.
Hurts noted he had been cleated during the game against the Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 4, was unbothered by it through a few practices, but then he went to the training room for his first treatment of it on Oct. 8.
Hurts received further treatment on Friday, and an ultrasound was performed in London that revealed a superficial blood clot.
"Our medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and concluded that activity and mobility were important and that Jalen could safely play," the team said. "Doctors recommended a follow-up ultrasound within 72 hours of the game and the return flight to Philadelphia."
Hurts played without limitation Sunday, but a follow up ultrasound on Wednesday night revealed "movement" in the blood clot. The team says they are now determining the next course of treatment.
"His health and safety are our highest priority," they added.
It's not clear how much time he may miss.
The Birds have started the year 2-3, dropping three straight contests after a 2-0 opening.
